Iguazú Falls in 3D
The Devil's Throat
On the Iguazú River, between Argentina and Brazil
At the Devil's Throat about half of the Iguazú River pours into a U-shaped chasm about 82 m deep. The river falls over hard sheets of basalt left by vast lava flows, and islands split its 2.7 km brink into some 275 separate falls. A Guaraní story says the serpent god M'Boí split the river in anger.
