Avebury, Newgrange, Skara Brae, Callanish Stones, Carnac
Avebury is the largest stone circle in Britain, raised around 2600 BC inside a huge bank and ditch. Newgrange is a 5,000-year-old passage tomb in Ireland's Boyne Valley. Skara Brae is a Neolithic village on Orkney, lived in for about 600 years from around 3100 BC and buried by sand until a storm in 1850 tore the dunes open. The Callanish Stones (Calanais) are a cross-shaped stone setting on the Isle of Lewis: a ring of 13 stones around a tall central monolith, with rows running out to the north, south, east and west. The Carnac stones are the largest group of standing stones in the world, on the south coast of Brittany.
